NFL never intended to play Glitter track 'Rock and Roll Pt II' at Superbowl

Fri, 03 Feb 2012

NFL bosses have announced that a rendition of shamed pop-star Gary Glitter's 'Rock and Roll Pt II' will not be played at Superbowl XLVI, and nor was it never intended to.

The cover in question was recorded in 2001 by all-girl 'supergroup' Tube Tops 2000, which features former Smashing Pumpkins/Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur, the Go-Go's Kathy Valentine and Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson, and was a mainstay in the annual showcase event for many years - but in 2006 bosses moved to ban the track from all of its arenas ensuring Glitter earns no money through royalties.

NFL representative Brian McCarthy said:

"No version of that song ['Rock and Roll Part II'] has been played at the Super Bowl since 2006. We are not playing the song on Sunday and never intended to."
