"What does PAL & NTSC mean?"

PAL & NTSC are the two main video standards used globally for televisions, DVD players etc. As a rough guide PAL is predominantly used in the UK, Europe and many parts of Asia and Africa and NTSC features mostly in the US, Canada, most of South America and Japan. If you are not sure of the video standard you use in your country then click here for more information.

"What region are your DVDs?"

All of our LickLibrary branded DVDs are 'Region Free' / 'Region 0' as they are educational and therefore have no geographical playback restrictions apart from the video format (read 'Can I watch a PAL DVD on a NTSC based system & vice versa' for more information).

"Can I watch a PAL DVD on a NTSC based system & vice versa?"

Whilst it is generally possible for PAL set top DVD players to play NTSC formatted discs (if the DVD player is ‘Multi REGION’ capable), unfortunately most NTSC set top players by default CANNOT play PAL DVDs unless the device is 'Multi FORMAT' capable (not be confused with 'multi REGION') which in this case such NTSC set top players can convert PAL format DVDs on the fly to play directly on a NTSC TV (but you will need to check with your DVD player's documentation or manufacturer to confirm this).

"I live in a country that uses NTSC, is there any way I can watch a PAL format DVD?"

Yes there is! Apart from getting your hands on a 'Multi FORMAT' set top DVD player (mentioned above) the other easy option you have is to use your computer's in-built DVD player, as ALL computer based DVD players (on both PC and Mac) are NOT subject to video format restrictions and will happily play BOTH PAL & NTSC DVDs irrespective of which country you live in. Please note that DVD players used in games consoles (X Box, Playstation, Wii etc) DO NOT always support both video formats so again you will have to check with the manufacturer for more information.

This one hour VHS course is a complete program specifically designed to show you how to use each and every chord pattern you will need to get in your first band.

Section 1 of the course starts off with a quick tune-up and then an introduction to open chords. Next, Steve Bray, author of 71 cassette courses, 4 books and 6 videos, takes you step-by-step through specially designed exercises, giving you the full set of open chords and showing you how to develop your strumming technique, integrate bass notes into your playing, and apply the 'pick and fingers' technique.

In Section 2, Steve shows you the three most important sets of moveable/barre chords and introduces you to the Root note system which thoroughly organises your chord playing/knowledge, making your understanding of these chords simple and logical. He shows you the best patterns to use and how to take advantage of knowing these different chord shapes giving you a professional level of versatility which would be very difficult to teach yourself from books.

Section 3 is Understanding Chords. In this section Steve shows you the formulae of every chord you will need. With this information you will be able to break chords down; invent/map out arpeggios; and analyse mystery chords, giving you invaluable technical chord knowledge which will improve your musician to musician communication considerably.

Section 4 is Tricks of the Trade. In this section Steve shows you the minor 7th hammer-on technique; power chords, shortened chords, suspended 4ths, the 3 triad scale runs, and more, giving you instant experience which usually takes years to discover.

Section 5 is Transcribing from Records. In this section Steve shows you the way to take chord parts from recordings, giving you teh freedom to play anything you want on record. This section of the course alone is worth the price of this video. There is a logical system to transcribing chord parts from records but unfortunately to outsiders it's as secretive as the magic circle. This section of the video reveals all.

Section 6 It's time to learn the truth! Are you really any good? Have you studied this thorough and professionally planned course properly? Steve has set out four audition pieces for you to play. It's simple - he plays first ten stops, but the band carries on playing for you to take the audition. If you fail the audition, go back and practise. The audition is especially designed to give you a realistic level expected of a guitarist starting off in a pub/club band.
