Massive Duane Allman Box Set To Be Released

Mon, 28 January 2013

Rounder records are set to release a massive seven-disc Duane Allman boxset on March 5th. Curated and produced by Bill Levenson and Allman's daughter Galadrielle, Skydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective spans the legendary guitarist's too-short career.

The 129-song compilation will feature recordings from Allman's early garage-rock days in the Allman Joys, the Escorts and the Hour Glass; studio sessions with Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Boz Scaggs, Clarence Carter and, of course, select cuts from the Allman Brothers Band and his work with Derek and the Dominoes.

The ‘Skydog’ box set will be the second to come from the Allmans in 2013. Earlier this week the band announced the release a four-disc set of two live shows from 1972 and 1973. Both the Macon, Ga. and Uniondale, N.Y. show were recorded after Duane Allman’s death in 1971.

The Allman Brothers had begun recording Eat a Peach, the follow-up to their classic At Fillmore East, shortly before Duane Allman died in a motorcycle crash on October 29th, 1971. He was 24.
