Shredding over groove metal? Who would have thought it? Only one man..The Late Great Dimebag Darrell! He always had fun both onstage, offstage and in the studio and ensured the fans did the same. But Beware..despite his propensity for partying it out relentlessly, he was without question a terrifying technically proficient player who had studied his instrument endlessly. He showed us that metal blues players can be shredders as well with note-for-note accuracy and speed.. His trademark blistering blues-influenced heavy metal shredding sent metal guitarists to the woodshed to work their chops to the bone and even produce their own brand of modern heavy metal (Just have a word with bands like Chimaira, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage and Bullet For My Valentine!).

Therefore I was over the moon when this Quicks Licks DVD in the style of Dimebag Darrell came out. This DVD is one of many tributes to Dimebag that encompasses how endeared both he and his music in the guitar world really is, even after all these years since his untimely passing (Something that to this day few have come to terms with.). In this DVD the exemplary Andy James will take you through the fast paced world of Dimebag Darrell's guitar style in the form of twenty six killer metal licks. The licks are excecuted with legato, alternate picking and even two handed techniques. There are some very aggressive sounding licks in there as well that involve some serious vibrato and bending that will bring about the squeals Dimebag used to ring out while shredding away. Each lick is taught slowly and then gradually up to speed to get the motions and fingering down. When put together and played at tempo, you will get some serious metal shredding out of it, which you can even use in your own playing and get ideas for improvising. The backing track included with the DVD is an excellent Pantera-style groove metal song which is ideal for jamming over and improvising leads in this style (Somewhat reminiscent of Mouth For War..one of their fan favourites!). This DVD is a must have for any fan of Dimebag Darrell and Pantera who are interested in metal guitar playing (Such as myself). Although this an advanced level DVD, if you are a fan of Dimebag, that should not bother you because you will be so motivated to better yourself as a player. It is one of my personal favourite Licklibrary DVDs in the Quick Licks series. Dimebag Darrell's legacy will continue to inspire guitarists, rockers and metal heads for many years to come and I really feel that he would have no doubt enjoyed this DVD in his style. Special Thanks to Andy James for putting together this exemplary Dimebag Darrell Quick Licks DVD.

The DVD is awesome. Everybody tries to tinker around to get the hidden notes and succession of phrases to match the feel and execution of Dime style licks. Unfortunately most miss it and the terrible thing is that they're really close but just fall short. This dvd helps you bridge the gaps with his concepts and style. The licks are not note for note transcriptions of the songs but...PLEASE READ ON... but rather they put you in the MINDSET of what Darrell is doing, will do, or has done. I can't tell you how much time I've spent spinning my wheels trying to get the sound and sequential ideas that this man has created. Finally I can LISTEN better to what he plays and KNOW what and how he plays much more ACCURATELY. Truly a must have Instructional Video. Andy... Thanks Bro, as long as you're on board ...I'm in.
