Richard Smith rivals Roy Buchanan as the greatest guitarist you probably never heard. A master of timing, tone, phrasing and composition, Richard really is a pleasure to listen to and an even greater pleasure to learn from.
Having a long relationship with USC, Richard's role as an educator shines, but it's as a recording musician where Richard has shined the most, receiving acclaim from journalists and players the world over. His last release, L.A. Chillharmonic is a tour de force of tasty guitar playing.
Richard has also developed a groundbreaking course entitled “Contemporary Popular Music, a Global Perspective’, in which he takes a class of students, from a range of degree programs at USC to collaborate with the international student body at The Institute of Popular Music Performance, (ICMP) in London, England. His students are working professionally in venues from Broadway and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, to recording and touring with such luminaries as Oliver Stone, B.T., Marc Anthony, Snoop Dog, Blink 182, Beck, The Back Street Boys, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Elton John, Clay Aiken, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus, Drake Bell, Madonna. Michael Bolton, Bono, the Edge, Maroon 5, and current hit television programs American Idol and Glee.
